Concrete Bag Calculator
Estimate how many concrete bags you may need from the cubic-yard quantity for your project. The calculator uses planning yields for 80-lb and 60-lb bags.
Start with the concrete calculator
Enter your project length, width, and thickness in the ATHENA Concrete Calculator. It calculates cubic yards, adds a 10% planning allowance, and shows approximate bag quantities.
How the bag estimate works
ATHENA uses about 45 80-lb bags per cubic yard and about 60 60-lb bags per cubic yard as planning estimates. Actual yield depends on the exact concrete mix.
Estimated bags = recommended cubic yards × planning bags per cubic yard
Example
A project requiring about 4.1 cubic yards with the planning allowance would be roughly 185 80-lb bags or 247 60-lb bags using ATHENA's planning yields.
How to use the product's exact yield
When the package provides a cubic-foot yield per bag, use the exact product information instead of a general conversion:
Bags = recommended cubic yards × 27 ÷ cubic feet of yield per bag
Round up to a whole bag. If the product gives coverage at a particular thickness instead of cubic-foot yield, use that stated coverage for the applicable project conditions.
Why bag counts vary
Concrete products can have different yields even when bag weights are similar. Product formulation, aggregate, and the stated yield affect how much finished concrete a bag produces.
Bagged concrete or ready-mix?
Bagged mix can make sense for smaller projects where you can mix and place it yourself. Larger pours may use ready-mix delivered by a supplier. Compare the calculator's volume with your supplier's or product manufacturer's stated quantity requirements.
What should I check before buying?
Verify the bag weight, exact yield or coverage, mix type, number of bags required, and whether the supplier has minimum purchase or delivery requirements. Keep the product information with your project notes so you can reproduce the estimate later.
